I spent a day with John in the Lake District doing an assessment for the ‘T2’ permit that’s now needed to take Scouts on hillwalking expeditions. Some of us were being assessed, others training for the assessment. I found John to be an all-round excellent instructor. He’s an engaging character with a coaching style that inspires you to do well. He paced the day perfectly too, allowing time for a full morning of assessments followed by a fine walk up Blencathra in the afternoon. As an experienced hillwalker it’s clear to me that John really knows his stuff. I would have no hesitation recommending him to anyone as a highly competent and confidence-inspiring mountain guide and instructor.
